MBIE

Ministry of business, employment and innovation

It was satisfying to win the tender for the MBIE Security uplift at their Stout Street site. This project had been a focus for MBIE for over two years, due to Covid19 lockdowns and uncertainty. MBIE were looking for a very focused contractor with a good health and safety record and with the ability to tackle the challenge they had been admiring on paper for so long. There was a lot of motivation from the client for this to project to go well.

Being a live and fully occupied site always causes issues for construction and having to work around the active reception and main entrance area was especially challenging. But with careful planning and a very willing and supportive client, we managed to deliver without too much disruption to all users.

There were a few very delicate items that required special coordination - one being the removal and re-location of the current overhead display sign. The sign was sizeable with various interconnecting components which required technical and construction input to disassemble and reassemble without any damage. The set out and integration of this unit with the new reception ceiling needed careful planning and coordination with all parties involved.

We believe that the final result of this project was a success for Key Commercial Interiors and MBIE, especially as it was delivered to program, within budget and at a time when Covid19 disruptions were peaking.

The Key success factors for this project were:

  1. Careful planning and project management
  2. Good client and consultant support
  3. Good sub-contractor engagement
  4. A good main contractor with their own employed tradesmen and able to be flexible, with reliability.- Key Commercial Interiors Ltd!
